Compulsion — A Poem Redacted

Dr.-Jekyll-and-Mr.-Hyde-(1941)---Spencer-Tracy-766431In which are revealed fragments of a written account of the incident, retrieved at some peril from an operative within the clandestine service

Detective Hidalgo was called to the scene

on a bleak ______ing evening, the thirteenth of ______.

One witness declared that as far as he knew

the two men were engaged in a _____ of pure _____.

Having heard this, Hidalgo then set to the task

of determining motive, which led him to ask

Mrs. _______ if perchance she had seen from her room

any clear indications of ______ or of _______.

She denied this but flashed him a smile that suggested

his thoughts on the case were soon to be tested.

Which proved all too true, for that very same night

the two suspects were seen neath the _______ Station light.

The cops were alerted from the precinct at ___________,

But with little to go on, the trail soon grew cold.

Months have passed, but Hidalgo refuses to quit.

His flat overflows with detritus and bits

of the evidence found at the last known address

which he sifts through relentlessly trying to guess

what the two men were up to on that fateful night

neath the cold foggy glow of the _________ Station light.

Passed out from exhaustion upon his flat floor,

around midnight there comes a loud knock at the door.

Which causes Hidalgo to leap to his feet

as the door is kicked open and …

…at which point the smuggled document unfortunately ends, leaving us none the wiser concerning either the outcome of the case or the fate of Detective Hidalgo.
